Position: Maintenance Electrician Job Location: Norfolk, VA Shift: ALL (0600 – 1445 to start; possible night shift) Security Clearance: No Clearance Required

Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour (No per diem available)

DESCRIPTION:

Hutco, Inc. is seeking a skilled Maintenance Electrician for our Facilities department in Norfolk, VA. The Maintenance Electrician will be responsible for performing installation, repairs, and maintenance according to diagrams, schematics, and national electrical codes. The role requires experience in both commercial and residential electrical work and involves working in various environments, including shipboard spaces.

Commercial industrial experience is a must; holding a journeyman card is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installation, repair, and maintenance based on electrical diagrams, drawings, schematics, and codes.
  • Perform commercial and residential electrical tasks, including controller installation and repairs.
  • Plan installations, including drawing up material lists.
  • Perform phone and data cabling tasks as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Carrying, Lifting, Walking, Climbing, Pulling: Required regularly, with frequent handling of tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Crawling, Sitting, Crouching, Standing, Kneeling, Stooping: Tasks involve various physical postures and extended periods of standing and walking (75% of the time).
  • Hearing and Talking: Essential for communication and safety on the job site.
  • Vision Requirements: Adequate visual acuity is needed to operate machinery and perform skilled trades tasks, such as those performed by electricians.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to navigate ships, climb ladders, work at heights, and walk on scaffolding.
  • Exposure to varied temperatures, humidity, wind, wet conditions, fumes, odors, dust, vibrations, and potential toxic chemicals.
  • Tasks require using tools in confined spaces and following safety procedures to minimize risk.

  • Requires limited supervision and ability to assist others.

JOURNEYPERSON 3:

  • Needs minimum supervision to perform tasks effectively.

JOURNEYPERSON 2:

  • Will work under supervision with the potential for advancement.

JOURNEYPERSON 1:

  • Requires close supervision with opportunities for progression.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces on board ships.
  • Exposure to industrial conditions such as machinery vibrations, wet/humid environments, and potential exposure to caustic chemicals.
