Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary:
As a Senior Design Engineer-Manufacturing, you will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. Your primary responsibility will be to provide Product Engineering support for the Seguin, Texas Engine Plant as part of the Design For Manufacturing Team. This involves performing complex analysis work, identifying design problems, and resolving problems.
What You Will Do:
Provide technical leadership to Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing and other departments to solve difficult problems.
Effectively analyze production quality issues (engine component assemblies, supplier defects, loosing/leaking joints, compatibility issues, etc.) and lead cross-functional collaboration to determine the best enterprise solutions.
Design for Manufacturing Team workload oversight and priority setting of work requests, coaching of team members and engineers during development rotation.
Lead engineering process improvements for reactive/proactive quality and design/manufacturing collaboration leveraging Built in Quality and other Product Development Lean tools.
Identify and design manufacturing requirements for early product designs and leadership of proactive quality efforts.
Investigate and evaluate engineering non-conformances and factory improvement requests following the CAT Quality Management System.
Facilitate design deviations and advanced engineering change requests from Manufacturing, Logistics, Operations, Engineering and Quality departments.
Conceive and propose product design concepts for engine assembly issues and prepares design layouts of engine sub systems and major components by manual means or by using a computer graphics system.
Work closely with Test & Evaluation engineers and technicians, plant personnel, and suppliers regarding product design, test and production schedule dates.
Provide guidance to Assemblers and Test Engineers during product build-up and testing.

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
