Caterpillar's Earthmoving Division is hiring a Global Component Quality Lead within the Manufacturing Center of Excellence (CoE) in Peoria, IL. Also known as, Manufacturing Project Engineer, this role leads the global collaboration with key internal component partners focused on improving as delivered quality to machine assembly facilities, zero months in service, and two months in service field quality for all Earthmoving products. This position works with partners to develop quality control processes, review and ensure compliance with quality standards, and execute projects to resolve defects.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate Globally: Ensure collaboration and alignment between the four Earthmoving Product Groups, Earthmoving Operations, and internal supply partners to meet quality targets. Work daily with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, and supply chain teams worldwide to accomplish personal and organizational goals, solve quality issues, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage Processes: Develop, implement, monitor, and optimize quality assurance processes and strategies to ensure final products are compliant with quality standards.
  • Manage Metrics: Manage key metrics that predict zero and two months in service quality, make them visible through a dashboard, and drive actions to achieve goals. Leading the development and implementation of corrective action and preventive measures to achieve quality targets.
  • Coach and Guide Teams: Providing coaching on systems and tools used in Quality, including QRWB, Additive, BIQ, Caterpillar Quality Management System, Customer Acceptance Validation (CAV) audits, Key Station Audits, and Enhanced BIQ.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Manufacturing Best Practices and Standards: Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities.
  • QualityRisk Management: Ability to implement the quality assurance process of assessment, control, communication, and review of risks to the quality of products; Coaches others on how to effectively mitigate risks associated with quality.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences. Leads the implementation of structured approaches to investigate a vast range of problem types, determine causes, and find resolutions.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to utilize logistics engineering experience to manage vendors
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain management or other technical degree.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
