This is a summer, entry level position on night shift. The perfect candidate will be working in various areas of the plant. Various hours ranging from 5:15pm-6:00pm- Until. Typically, 2:30am -3:30am. Weekend work is required.
Summary
Performs a variety of duties throughout the plant, Inside Production. Is required to rotate among duties as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Machine pack
Stands by moving conveyor and (1) presses product into the machine-packed jar (2) lifts product from conveyor to finish filling machine-packed jars. Inspects product for foreign objects, broken pickles and defective glass.
Hand pack
Stands by packing table, lifts product from table and places in jar or another container. Weighs jar if required and places online for counting. Inspects product for foreign objects, broken pickles and defective glass. If needed, fills pans with pickles at hand pack conveyor and carries to packing table and dumps on table. Must meet minimum established production rate for hand packed products.
Pouch line
Stands by conveyor to inspect pouches for leaks or other nonconformities, discards bad pouches and moves good pouches to the pasteurizer for pasteurization by pushing a cart. Stands at the front of the pasteurizer and places the pouches on the pasteurizer belt, correctly oriented and spaced.
Other Duties
Inspects product on conveyor that feeds packing machine.
Uncasing
Places glass containers on unscramble table at a rate which maintains a line full of glass to the packing machinery at all times. Moves pallet away from unscrambler when empty.
Glass inspecting
Inspects glass jars visually. Using protective glove, takes defective or broken glass jars off packing line.
Check weighing
Checks hand packed jars of product for weight and appearance. Sets off acceptable jars from packing tables to conveyor line and credits packer with the production. Returns unacceptable jars to packer for correction.
Other – done on both shifts by all employees
Follows safety rules and company policies.
Rework (occasional duty, usually done on day shift)
Stands by moving conveyor loaded with bottled product which has been removed from line due to too little brine or too few pickles, "slack pack", and lifts product from conveyor to add to jar (usually at end of shift). Also, carries jars which have been packed but perhaps unlabeled and places on conveyor at pasteurizer to complete labeling, etc.
Bulk containers – (occasional duty, usually done on day shift)
Uncases 2.5 and 4-gallon containers. Removes lids and installs handles when needed. Packs product in container. Wipes, labels and codes containers and cartons. Also works on the 5-gallon lines doing duties instructed by the Supervisor.
All
Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor.
Work Environment
Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from some job tasks. Fumes from hot pepper and forklifts. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with grease. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and aprons required.
